Amref UK works closely with community health workers in Tanzania who bring health care close and closer to the people. Working in partnership, Amref aims to provide the vital link between communities, health care systems and the government. In this project Amref UK travelled to Handeni District in Tanga Region, where they are working with the local community to ensure that young people can make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health (SRH). The project also focuses on improving access to high quality health care within the Maasai community that is committed to ending female genital mutilation (FGM). Instead, girls go through an alternative rite of passage that marks the transition to adulthood without causing physical or psychological harm.
This project was commissioned by AMREF UK.
